D2 Demonstration Shows Capabilities of New Dashboard
Power Ten, Inc. successfully demonstrated advanced technologies in their Second Generation Performance Dashboard (D2) at the recent Rotorcraft Avionics Innovation Laboratory (RAIL) demonstration at Northrop Grumman’s Stoney Run facility outside of Baltimore, Maryland in December 2011.
Second generation performance dashboards are redefining Command and Control and Decision Support. The dashboards enable customizable displays for decision makers, operators and planners within command centers or agencies. Through D2 offering, Power Ten, Inc. provides cost effective solutions that meet the needs of both federal and civil clients.
“Currently, operators and decision makers must frequently access multiple systems in order to assimilate bits of information that enable them to make decisions or otherwise perform their role or function. Depending on the number of systems that must be accessed and monitored to maintain situational awareness, the quantity and density of information, and the level of experience or training of the user, decision makers can be presented an overwhelming challenge. D2 provides the user a convergence view of desired information that enables them to effectively monitor the status of critical capabilities, access, process, and disseminate critical information and decisions,” according to Mike Trabun, Consultant/Analyst for Power Ten, Inc.
D2 shortens decision cycles by presenting decision-makers and staff members actionable information that is pulled from existing systems, authoritative data sources, and communities of interest. Using an open-source architecture and web-enabled display framework, D2 streamlines the sharing of critical information elements through all levels of an organization. Based on a prototype proven in both combat and garrison environments, to enable users to publish and subscribe to information within a Collaborative Work Environment (CWE). D2 as the next generation dashboard is fully tailorable and configurable to a variety of operating contexts, user requirements, and the level of automation desired or required. D2 significantly reduces operator workload, and ensures critical actionable information is disseminated to multiple decision makers simultaneously. Additionally D2 provides access to task trackers, report generators, wiki-type blogs, integrated River City tools, and document & information management tools to support user requirements.
Power Ten, Inc. participated in the RAIL Digital Interoperability Demonstration to showcase D2 as the primary “Command Tool” that enabled decision makers in an operations center to coherently process and act upon the inputs of the multiple digital systems being demonstrated at RAIL. Northrop Grumman created the Rotorcraft Avionics Innovation Laboratory (RAIL) because proprietary systems can be difficult to integrate. RAIL provides an innovative, collaborative environment to integrate and test rotorcraft capabilities, reducing risk and enabling rapid technology insertion to the warfighter.
